DNREC Natural Resources Police Park Rangers charge Seaford angler with landing a prohibited shark species

DOVER – Following a tip made from within Delaware Seashore State Park, DNREC's Natural Resources Police Park Rangers charged a Seaford man with landing a prohibited shark species, in connection with taking a sandbar shark out of the water while fishing June 11 at 3 Rs beach within the park. Jay Katz, 65, was cited by Park Rangers for one count of catching and removing from the water a prohibited shark species. Katz was released, with his surf fishing permit suspended, pending an appearance in the Court of Common Pleas in Georgetown at a later date.

Middletown FFA wins forestry career event

Middletown High School FFA students won the 2019 "Forestry Career Development Event (CDE)," a challenging test of tree identification skills, forestry tools and knowledge, and math-related abilities. Also participating were teams from Sussex Central High School, Milford High School, and Millsboro Middle School. Each team consisted of four students who answered both individual and team-based questions. DNREC’s Natural Resource Police Park Rangers conduct surf-fishing enforcement operation at two coastal state parks

FENWICK ISLAND – On Saturday, June 15, and Sunday, June 16, DNREC's Division of Parks & Recreation's Natural Resource Police Rangers conducted a targeted enforcement operation for compliance with Delaware's surf fishing regulations at surf fishing beaches and surf crossings at Fenwick Island and Cape Henlopen State Parks. The operation was in response to complaints of surf-fishers failing to abide by regulations, particularly the "actively engaged" rule for fishing from the beach.

The Orders were issued to Bayly's Garage in Delmar; Irfan Tire Center in Millsboro; Mall Tire Center, LLC, in Seaford; Master Tire & Auto in Georgetown; Gulab's Tire Center, LLC in Millsboro; and West Auto Repair & Salvage, Inc. in Delmar. The Orders call for a penalty of $5,000 with an additional stipulated penalty of $1,000 per day if compliance is not achieved by the deadlines established in the Secretary's Orders.
