DOVER – Delaware hunters will start their 2017/18 hunting season Friday, Sept. 1 with the opening of archery and crossbow deer season, and mourning dove and resident Canada goose seasons on private lands and state wildlife areas. DNREC's Division of Fish & Wildlife offers many early-season hunting opportunities on state wildlife areas, with details and rules for hunting on them found on the Fish & Wildlife website. With Sept. 1 pre-registration deadline looming for DNREC?s 30th annual Delaware Coastal Cleanup, more volunteers are sought for a number of sites
DOVER – Volunteers are still needed and welcomed to join the 30th annual Delaware Coastal Cleanup, to be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 16. Sponsored by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, the cleanup spans more than 45 sites in New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties, including river and ocean shorelines as well as wetland and watershed areas. Volunteers are strongly encouraged to preregister at DNREC's Delaware Coastal Cleanup webpage to ensure enough supplies are readied for each site. Preregistration will close Friday, Sept. 1. In the scam, the homeowner is told that they must leave their house for a period of twelve hours while the individual sprays crops in the nearby vicinity. There are some indicators that these visits are a scam in an attempt to get the homeowner to leave their house unattended. Fifty-eight Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) members spent 14,000 hours this summer in DNREC's Delaware State Parks removing hundreds of acres of invasive plants, cleaning, painting, staffing park offices, planting, mulching, building displays at the Delaware State Fair, and even constructing stocks to be used at Dover's 18th Century Market Fair this fall, to name just a few. During an end of year celebration for their service, DNREC Secretary Shawn M. Garvin and others thanked the participants for all of their hard work in state parks this summer.
